Justin is a Partner at Child & Child.
He has a formidable reputation as a litigator. His innovative approach to employment matters is attractive to individuals and companies alike. His primary focus remains on all aspects of contentious employment matters and he regularly litigates in the High Court and Employment Tribunal for local workers, employees and ex-pats. He also advises Companies on less contentious employment and commercial matters including employment terms, human resources issues, restructuring, redundancies, TUPE, and remuneration including bonus/commission schemes and awards, and long term incentive plans. Justin has been involved in numerous boardroom and shareholder disputes. He also acts in disputes for partners in LLPs and Partnerships. He is regularly instructed on contentious regulatory and compliance matters.
Justin is involved in high value claims, often settling matters at a very satisfactory level without the need for an actual hearing. This is due to his forward thinking and planning in litigation as well as his skills as a negotiator, which are widely recognised and have led to significant successes in both formal and informal settings. He has a genuine interest in and desire to understand the issues in a dispute and takes a commercial and pragmatic approach to dispute resolution.
Justin is very familiar with the instruments traded in the financial industry and the complexities of the deals done. His recent cases include whistle-blowing and discrimination claims for senior employees in major investment banks and hedge funds, and partners in law firms. He has also acted for directors and senior management who have been removed from office, dealing with injunctions and claims for losses arising from salary, benefits and restricted stock. He has pursued damages through an insolvency situation for various employee and non-employee creditors. He has been instructed in claims of professional negligence and a claim for breach of directors’ duties resulting in a claim against the Company’s D&O insurance policy. He has also acted for a group of shareholders in advancing their rights against a Company.
Justin graduated from Cambridge University in 1999 with a degree in Law. After graduating, he concentrated on general and commercial litigation, in particular acting for larger companies and insurance clients. In April 2001, Justin moved to London began his practice primarily in contentious employment matters for employees in the securities industry including bonus claims, injunctions and restraint of trade declarations in the High Court and a wide range of employment matters in the Employment Tribunal and qualified as a solicitor in 2002. Together with Paul Puxon he set up Puxon Murray LLP in June 2009 which merged with Child and Child in October 2016.
