Our family team cater to both domestic and international clients, handling complex cross-border issues, trust and tax matters on a regular basis.  We have an established base of international clients and offer strategic and nuanced advice to help them protect their family and their assets.

Whatever your situation, you can expect advice that is comprehensive, pragmatic and constructive.  Even in the most complex of situations, our family team will work carefully with you. We will ensure that you understand your options and feel able to make informed decisions, understand any risks and the range of possible outcomes.

We will help you to keep family matters private. Discrete and effective, we are expert at resolving matters outside of court and, where appropriate, offer in-house mediation.   Our family team embraces a collaborative approach to divorce and family issues. When appropriate, we utilise arbitration and private hearings to achieve early, private resolution of issues that cannot be resolved through negotiation.

There are times when litigation is necessary and you can be assured that your case will be pursued with precision and vigour.  Our team have acted for clients in all courts with great success, often in urgent and complex matters involving questions of jurisdiction and complex asset structures.

We deliver an integrated service including advice on tax, trusts and immigration matters from our specialist in-house teams.

Key Areas of Assistance:

Children's Welfare

Safeguarding your children’s welfare is our priority. Our family team advise on a wide range of matters including how much time children should spend with each parent, which school they should attend and where they shall live – including relocation in this country and abroad. They are experienced in making urgent applications to protect children from abuse including to the high court for passport orders and to recover a child.

Divorce and Financial Settlements

In times of relationship breakdown, our experienced team help clients reach financial settlements, whether facing complicated family dynamics, complex financial structures including corporate and trust structures or cross-border issues.

Clients are often referred to us for early advice or second opinions when feeling unsure of their position. Our team work holistically with external advisors to help our clients plan for their financial futures, giving them a stable base to build from.

Domestic abuse

We help clients suffering domestic abuse and/ or coercive control and those against whom allegations have been made.  Acting swiftly and decisively, we can take the necessary steps to protect you and your children.

Mediation

We recognise how important it is for parties to retain autonomy over decisions concerning their financial future and the arrangements of their children, whilst preserving a communicative relationship. Our family team offers an all-issues mediation services with our accredited and experienced mediator.

We also offer Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMs) to enable clients to understand options ahead of a decision to litigate. Our accredited mediator is also able to see children within the mediation process and listen to their views and concerns, in a confidential and sensitive setting.  Sharing their views within the security of the mediation process often results in informed and creative discussions and agreements.

Hybrid Mediation

Hybrid mediation allows for the resolution of complex and high conflict matters, where traditional mediation may not be appropriate. This model allows the mediator to hold “confidences” in the short or medium term to assist the negotiation process, assisting negotiations where parties may have otherwise reached an impasse. The process offers increased flexibility and fluidity. Hybrid mediation is often (but not always) utilised where parties would like the support of lawyers during the process to provide contemporaneous advice and to ensure a more expeditious resolution of matters.

Parting Ways. Together

One separation or divorce.  One lawyer.

The ‘Parting Ways. Together’ model allows a couple navigating their way through separation or divorce to work together with the assistance of one lawyer. This reduces conflict and costs. When children are involved, this helps effective co-parenting, and so a more positive adjustment for both children and their parents.

Religious and International Divorce

Our team provides early tactical advice when choice of jurisdiction is an issue. We are experienced with religious divorce and the nuanced cultural concerns that result.

Wealth Protection

Our family team advise clients considering marriage who may wish to use a pre-nuptial agreement to protect property or make provision for their family on divorce; married clients who wish to ring-fence assets or debt or manage a separation with a post-nuptial agreement; and unmarried individuals who wish to protect property or agree how to meet their expenses and provide for their children with a co-habitation agreement.

Working closely with our private client and tax teams, our family law specialists can ensure that personal and intergenerational wealth is protected as individuals and their advisors intend. Our team help clients to manage these negotiations in a sensitive and constructive way.
