The Home Secretary has just made a new announcement concerning individuals whose visas have expired or due to expire. If you are in the UK and your leave expires between 24 January 2020 and July 2020, your visa will be extended to 31st July 2020 if you cannot leave the UK because of travel restrictions.
The extension will apply to anyone whose leave expired after the 24 January and cannot leave the country. Those currently in the UK on a temporary visa i.e. visitor visa, will be required to return home as soon as it is practical and safe to do so. This news is an extension of the government’s previous guidance which extended stay until 31st May 2020.
If your visa has expired or is expiring, you will need to contact the Coronavirus Immigration Help Centre. Please note that if you have already emailed the help centre, please do not contact them by phone.
Telephone: 0800 678 1767 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)
Calls to this number are free of charge within the UK. Check call charges with your phone provider if you’re calling from abroad.
It is also pertinent to mention, that individuals who would have needed to return to their home country to submit a visa application, to re-enter the UK, can submit their visa application in the UK if their visa is expiring prior to 31st July.
