Visiting the UK

A visitor is a person who is coming to the UK, usually for up to six months, for a temporary purpose, for example as a tourist, to visit friends or family or to carry out a business activity.

A common requirement for the various visit visa categories are; that the applicant is a genuine visitor.  The applicant will have satisfactory means to support themselves during their stay, will show that they have an intention to return, will not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits and is genuinely seeking entry as a visitor.
