Tim joined Child & Child as the head of the private client team in 2010.
Having graduated in Nottingham in 1977, Tim qualified as a barrister in 1979. After a period of general practice at the Bar, he began working as a tax lawyer in the West End and City with wide range of professional, corporate and individual clients. Practice now focused in the private client field over last 12 years.
Tim specialises in capital tax planning, particularly to mitigate inheritance tax. Advises on trusts, corporate entities, wills and powers of attorney for both domiciled and non-domiciled individuals. Also post-death planning for estates and beneficiaries including contentious claims and disputes. Tim is able to advise on residence and domicile issues for both onshore and offshore individuals and companies together with appropriate structuring. He is experienced in negotiating with statutory authorities such as HMRC and representation before tribunals and courts where necessary.
As the head of the private client department at Child & Child, advice is frequently required to be given on matters involving immigration law as well as anti-money laundering practice. This reflects both the international basis of the firm's clients and its standing amongst fellow professionals.
Tim gives his clients a service that is both professional and personal to them, whilst being practicable and cost-effective. He believes in delivering conclusions that are definitive and which meet the reasonable expectations of the clients.
